Desktop Maestro from PC Tools takes on common issues that computer users struggle with, providing tools to scan and clean registries and optimize PC performance.

Desktop Maestro is software developer PC Tools' answer to many of the routine issues that can slow system performance of desktops and laptops. While anti-virus software such as McAfee Internet Security 2010 can guard against spyware and malware, it can't repair or clean a computer registry.

Problems with registries can arise when a large number of software programs are downloaded, installed, and later uninstalled, and can be a drag on system performance over time, especially on older PCs. Desktop Maestro combines PC Tools' registry cleaner technology along with other technology for PC optimization and privacy protection for personal details.

Who Needs Desktop Maestro

If a computer is acting sluggish and is slow to open and run various programs, cleaning the registry can improve system performance in some instances. Since most registry issues stem from programs not completely uninstalling and leaving behind legacy data and files, older computers are doubly susceptible to registry issues, as they've had numerous programs installed and use older hardware that even small issues can impact.

Newer computers shouldn't be impacted by registry issues, so any system performance issues with a new computer is likely due to some other problem such as spyware or malware or improperly configured settings. Using a registry cleaner product such as Desktop Maestro won't cause any harm to a system; it just isn't a cure-all for sluggish, slow PCs.

How Desktop Maestro Works

Desktop Maestro automatically scans a computer's registry and highlights suggested repairs; users review the suggestions manually or allow Desktop Maestro to fix all errors. A system restore point is created in case users would like to roll back any changes after Desktop Maestro has cleaned and repaired the registry.

After cleaning their registry, users can use other links in the Desktop Maestro application to optimize system performance. These are existing PC utility programs and applications such as defrag and hard drive optimizers; Desktop Maestro just provides easy one-click access to them from a central location.

Desktop Maestro vs. the Competition

Registry cleaners can be tricky to buy, as freeware or shareware registry cleaners are notorious for actually containing viruses themselves. When looking for registry cleaner software be sure to steer clear of any shareware or freeware products, as it pays to go with an established product such as Desktop Maestro.

Other comparable programs to Desktop Maestro include Norton Utilities from Symantec and Wise Registry Cleaner. All three products are similarly priced and provide the same core functionality.
